Go to your admin panel and select List Admin -> Top Site List Config.

Here you will be able to customize the appearance and functionality of your list.

General List Appearance

Maximum Sites - Limit the maximum number of sites to ever be displayed.

Even if your list is a Top 100 Sites, for example, we recommend you make this setting larger. If your list becomes full, newer members won't be able to see their site in the list, and it could take a long time to gain the votes to become visibly ranked. This could discourage participation.

Sites Per Page - How many sites displayed per page maximum.

For example, you could break your list into pages with 25 sites displayed per page. You must display at least 10 sites per page, but no more than 50 per page.

Maximum Banners - Limit banners to the top X sites

Restrict banner display to only the top X ranked sites.

Maximum Descriptions - Limit the display of site's description text to the top X sites

Restrict description display to only the top X ranked sites.

Display Zero Votes - Limit display of members with no votes.

You may display all members with votes, or all members regardless of votes. There is also an option to show sites with zero votes, but in a restricted format. This allows new sign-ups to see their listing before the first vote is placed, but doesn't provide a link to their website in order to encourage adding of the voting code.

Show Empty Slots - Fill out unused list slots (see Sites Per Page) with a "Your Site Here" message that links to the registration page.

Border - Activate a professional-looking border and select it's thickness.

Border Color - Specify the border color using HTML notation.

Examples of HTML color specifications:

#FF0000 = Red
#00FF00 = Green
#0000FF = Blue
#FFFFFF = White
#000000 = Black
#444444 = Dark Grey
#BBBBBB = Light Grey

Important: You must also set Table Color, for this parameter to work correctly.

Table Color - Specify the table's color in HTML notation

Table Font Color - Numbers & Labels - Optional color override of Member # and Vote and Hit count text.

Table Font Color - Titles - Optional color override of member Titles.

Table Font Color - Descriptions - Optional color override of member Descriptions.

Table Font Face - Optional font face override of table text.

Note that not all browsers support all font faces, and if a font is not installed on a user's browser, they will see a different font face than the one specified. Arial and Verdana are two common font faces.

List Member Appearance

Max Title Length - Although members may enter longer titles, you can restrict the viewable length with this.

Max Description Length - Members may enter up to 255 characters, but you can limit viewable length.

Banner Settings

Allow Banner Uploads - If you would like members to be able to upload a site banner enable this.

Maximum Width -
Maximum Height -
Minimum Width -
Minimum Height -

The above 4 parameters allow you to control what sizes of banners that member's can upload. Keep in mind some standard banner sizes:

  • 88x31, Button
  • 120x60, Small Banner
  • 468x60, Standard Banner

Forcing a Single Size - If you set the Minimums and Maximums to the same value, only that exact banner size will be allowed. In this case, the list will also force the size of banners to be these exact dimensions in case there where previously other sizes of banners uploaded.

Two Possible List Layouts - Two list banner layout options may be used, depending on the Maximum Width set for banners.

If the Maximum Width is greater than 200 pixels, titles, banners and descriptions will appear stacked and centered.

If the Maximum Width is 200 or less, the banners will appear to the left, and titles and descriptions will appear to the right. This is a nice layout when using a fixed banner size of 88x31, for example.

List Functionality

Record Clicks - This refers to hit tracking for clicks on sites from your list. You may selected coded links to track hits, or direct uncounted links which will also cause the Hits column of your list to be hidden.

New Member Email Alert - Use this feature to keep you posted when a new member joins.

Require Website - Use this setting to make the Title, Description and URL fields required to register. Requiring website info also helps reduce spam, however if you have the forum feature enabled, you may choose to disable this setting and allow members with no website to register and post in your forum.

Forum Option

See How to Configure your Portal for more information about this setting.

Custom Layout

Portal Mode - By default, lists utilize Portal Mode, which provides customizable homepage modules (like Stats, Poll, Welcome, Blog, Recent Posts and more) and hundreds of different "skins" or styles which can be selected.

Custom HTML Mode - If our 275+ available styles do not meet your needs, and you require even more control on the layout of your list, perhaps to match the style of your website, this option is for you. You should understand HTML well before using this option. This feature is controlled via standard Page Header and Page Footer blocks of HTML for the ultimate complete control.

If you are also using the Forum option, you will be responsible for providing desired navigational links (forum, new topics, member list, messages, etc.), as this option will remove the standard navigation used in the Forum pages (and the Portal page too, for that matter, except for some critical options that are always available at the bottom of the list).

To add a dynamic link block to your custom HTML layout, include the following code:

Code:

{LINKS}

The string {LINKS} will be replaced by links similar to the following depending on whether the user is logged-in or not:

Quote:

Join This List | Login

Quote:

My Account | Logout

Or, to add a stats block to your custom HTML layout, simply include the following code:

Code:

{STATS}

The string {STATS} will be replaced by a text block similar to the following:

Quote:

We have 18 registered users

The newest registered user is artecy

There have been 96 votes and 810 hits.

Note that the vote and hit counts are cached, which means they are updated periodically and may lag slightly behind the actual values.

Another important note to remember for Custom Layout users, is that the selected Style will affect some graphics (and possibly fonts) for the list pages and the layout of the forum pages. For example, you may want to select a style with a black background if you are using a black background Custom HTML layout, as this will provide better blending of graphics. The Memberlist page is an example of a page that contains graphics drawn from the style.

Please note that list admins may not add any popups or paid-advertising to their list or any part of the website.

Voting Gateway

The Voting Gateway page is displayed whenever a member's voting link is clicked. It provides information about the member and the list, and a voting button for members to click. The Gateway may be indirectly configured to display a custom image from the list depending upon what images have been uploaded. If a custom list logo has been uploaded that image will be displayed on the Voting Gateway page. If no logo is set, it will use Voting Image 1 instead, if available.
