My list is only about cafepress shops, cafepress is an Internet retailer that offers you a page much like yours where you can customize apparel with your own designs. They have two kinds of pages, free ones and premium paid pages. At the free ones you can't add HTML to your pages so the voting code can't be added. I have suggested to those members to place the code at their friends pages which I think is going to work but here is what one member did, he isolated the part 100bestcpshops.top-site-list.com/voteHISMEMBERSHIPNUMBER.html and added that to his site since he can only add links. I went and I click on it and it looks like a vote got registered plus he has another 3 votes apparently form that link or the standard vote code links he has placed elsewhere. I don't mind that usage actually I find it acceptable for the members that might have similar problems and I recommend it but my question remains if this is something that will work. I’m not 100% sure if my click registered the vote or if the vote came form other sites he might have placed the standard voting links but if this method does work then would a member will be able to mass e-mail this simple link with the instruction click here and got at least a percentage of curiosity votes to advance his or her site?

Nassos,

Sorry for delay, as I just found your question.

That is fine for them to use a text link to the voting page. I would like to know the URL of their CafePress page so I can see their implementation, but it should work with no problem.

Our "Ten Point" voting security is very strong. Just visiting the voting gateway won't register a vote, but if someone who hasn't voted in the last 24 hours visits the voting gateway and clicks the voting button then it will count as a vote.

here is someone who has done so at this page http://www.cafepress.com/smileycrayon
As I said I went and click at his link and a vote did register so it should work. I also retested it right now and gave the guy an extra vote.
I understand your security settings but if I mass mail this link with /voteX.html at the end then would it be clicked by many different IP's that recieve it and registed new votes?
Aslo since you are reading this, how can I reset the shoutbox or delete a comment?

Clicking the link will do nothing.

If some of these people are interested in the list, and they click the voting button on the gateway page, then the member will get a vote for having sent a qualified visitor to the list.

However, if we get reports of any members using spam to promote their list, that member is liable to be removed from the list.

(On the shoutbox, there is no interface to delete individual comments, however you can clear the shoutbox by settings the max messages to 5, then posting 5 quick comments and reseting as before.)

Sorry but I didn't undertand your answare, are you saying that cliking on the link this guys put on his page will do nothing? I have clicke on it got the getaway page clicked again and it registered a vote. I been suggesting this method for my members that can't edit the HTML of their page so they can add the complete votecode.
I understand that the method is unorthodox but if you saying it won't work I'm affraid to say it does for me or it had to do with me been the administrator?
Mass e-mailing that link is a method for someone to get votes but it is cheeting and I don't want it either but if it works I'm sure someone will do it.

Nassos,

Sorry to be confusing.

In regard to will this method work for the free CP sites, yes it will work just fine for anybody, administrator or not. I saw their page, it looks great. No problem.

In regard to will this method increase cheating, no, I don't think so. Potential of cheating is always there. The text-link versus the standard image-link doesn't make much difference in that regard, in my opinion. I'm also confident in the voting system to deter real cheating.

I don't have any concerns with either issue. Smile

Hi Mark,

Is it allowed for me to put up at the top of the list a box for my newsletter subscription basicly adding people at my cafepress subscriber list? I don't know if the html will work but if it does is this considered advertisement?

I could not make the subscription to work this is what I tried to add there but if gave no input box.

<!-- CafePress Newsletter Subscription Box 2 Code Begins -->
<table style="border-collapse: collapse; height: 40px; border: black 1px solid" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="3" width="400" bgcolor="#ccee99" border="1"><tbody>
<tr>
<td style="font-size: 9pt; color: black; font-family: arial,helvetica,tahoma" align="center">Sign up to receive our newsletter! </td>
</tr>
</tbody></table>
<!-- CafePress Newsletter Subscription Box 2 Code Ends -->

Do you know how I can put that anywere at the site?

Thanks

Yes, that code does not contain an input box.

It only contains some text which isn't even linked.

The code appears to be missing the interesting stuff, maybe you can try again to get the full code?

Sorry about that it should become a lesson when it says to select all to do so. I got the correct code but the number of characters I have are more than what the box allows me to enter so I must clip some of the stuff I already have up there. Any other place you can think I can put the sign up box so it is visable?
Againe one more question, I see my statistics and I see meny visitors but I can only see one or two URLS the come from the rest is blank, what does this mean? are those people coming form your general network?

Nassos, it just may be too large for what we can support right now, although I hope to upgrade that soon.

Visits with no referral can mean different things. Search engine robots don't browse like a human would, so when they come to visit that field will be blank. Also if a human just types your URL into the address bar of their browser you can get the same result. Bookmarks may also work the same way, depending on the browser.

Thansk, It looks like whatever I do it won't read the HTML correct. I made an image off what I have up there now so I saved a considerable amout of characters and I could fit all the mailing list box code I had and the image with 971 characters. Still it will not load the page and said something about syntax error. Bummer!

There may have been a small problem in your code.

Please post or send me the code you are trying to use (using your image too) and I'll see what I can see...

Here is what I tried to paste there:
<a href="http://www.cafepress.com/ sportgraphics/ "><img border="0"
src="http://nassosvakalis.com/images/CAFEPRESS/topbanner.gif"></a>
<!-- CafePress Newsletter Subscription -->
<table width=670 height=40 cellpadding=3 cellspacing=0 bgcolor="#CCEE99"
border=1 style="border: black 1px solid; border-collapse:collapse;">
<form method="post" action="http://www.cafepress.com/cp/members/member_subscription.aspx">
<input name="storeid" value="sportgraphics" type="hidden">
<input name="external" value="2" type="hidden">
<input name="emailtype" value="1" type="hidden">
<input name="cbstore" value="on" type="hidden">
<input name="successurl" value="" type=hidden>
<input name="failureurl" value="" type=hidden>
<tr><td nowrap
style="font-size: 9pt; color:black; font-family: arial,helvetica,tahoma;" align=center>
Sign up to receive our newsletter!
<input name="txtemail" type="text" size="20" maxlength="50"
value="enter your email" onFocus="this.value=''">
<input type="submit" value="go"></td></tr></form></table>
<!-- CafePress Newsletter Subscription -->

As you see the first link saves me a number of characters so I can put the e-mail subscription table as I cut it from the cafe press site.
Still when I see the page I either get no page at all or the box wrong.
